You know the exact feeling on the skin when a life earthquake hits.

Whether it is a sudden professional career shift, an unexpected diagnosis, or the quiet, terrifying realization that the success script you spent decades writing no longer fits the woman you are becoming—the reaction is identical. The internal alarms scream. The analytical brain goes numb. The throat tightens, and the nervous system slips into a heavy, functional freeze.

In those moments, the standard advice is to look up. To find a new mountain. To build a new five-year plan.

But you cannot think your way out of a cortisol loop. And when the map burns, looking at a distant, overwhelming peak only deepens the vertigo.

My own wayfinding didn’t come from a textbook. It grew through decades of life roles—as a portrait photographer, a reporter, an author, and a television talent director. My entire job was centered on keen observation and deep presence. In high-pressure, on-set situations, I had to help people immediately drop their performance, shed their insecurities, and tap into their own grounded resilience so they could shine in front of the lens.

But my biggest tracking test came when I decided to leave my urban universe of three decades behind. I stepped into the middle of nature to general contract a homestead build—something I had never done in my life. Suddenly, my neighbors were deer, owls, turkeys, and tortoises.

And suddenly, a single word started tracking me: PRECARIOUS.

The feeling was entirely real. But I knew that if I clenched around that fear, it would sabotage the leap. I had to consciously shift my perception from panic to wonder, curiosity, and micro-steps forward. I had to practice the raw somatic discipline of stopping the internal spin by breathing, grounding, and occupying my own tracks.

These tiny, intentional moments are what build the pattern of who we are becoming. The unknowns and the unexpecteds of your life are not the enemy; they are your greatest entries into spaciousness—if you meet them with openness instead of a clench.

If you are facing a massive change right now and the spin is sucking away your confidence, remember this: You don't need a distant guru or a complex checklist. You are your own best expert. You just need the tactical mechanics to clear the smoke so your next step is sure-footed.

Together, we’ve got this. Let’s drop the hustle and look at the ground beneath your boots.

Come home to your North.
